New Interview With John Seabury

John (sometimes known as Pynoman) is a local Bay Area artist who has shown with Eclectix a number of times. A skilled artist, graphic designer and comic illustrator, he is also a skilled musician, playing formerly with his band Psycotic Pineapple and today with The Deep. He has a fantastic wealth of gig posters he’s done over the years, as well as larger fine art silkscreens. Some of my favorite works are included in his two books,  his journals of collected black and white doodles and drawings - just chock full of wonderful characters, pineapples, curves, shapes and metamorphosis.

R.I.P. Frank Frazetta, Fantasy and Science Fiction Artist Dies

The infamous Frazetta was best known for his paintings in comic books, westerns, science fiction and fantasy styles. He also did a multitude of album cover art and animation. I remember being blown away by his images as a young girl, especially his women. While being the usual sexy posers, they were also very muscular, strong and Amazonian. It was nice to see women with some normal chunk to them in sensual display. His figures were always executed with complete expertise and had a very defined yet supple, fleshy feel. In 2008, the cover illustration to the Burroughs paperback "Escape on Venus" sold at auction for $251,000. Frazetta retained the original Conan paintings, and long refused to part with them. In 2009, Frazetta's "Conan the Conqueror" painting was the first to be offered for sale, and was purchased by a private collector for $1 million. He apparently had a few strokes over the years and this was his last. He greatly influenced today's generation of artists and will be long remembered.

Mo' Love: Fourth 'Popgun' Book Cover Art

Stopped dead in my tracks by the cover art for the next Popgun issue. This piece is by "Choker" artist Ben Templesmith. Just had to add it to the heart and love theme going on here lately...

"We wanted to make [the fourth 'Popgun' installment] even more eclectic and exciting and bigger than the previous volumes,"  Kirkbride (editor) told CBR about his goals for the volume.
"In terms of the first two goals, I do think we achieved them, to be honest. There are so many different styles and tones for each story in this collection, it's kind of overwhelming, in the best possible way. We continue to find great and varied talent, which is what makes these books work. We're very lucky that so many excellent creators, new and established, are interested in working with us."    - Josh Wigler, CBR

To celebrate, Meltdown Comics in Hollywood and Jim Hanley's Universe in NYC are throwing release parties on February 24th! Drop by to meet the creators, eat, drink and and listen to groovy music.
