Hello dear art lovers, it's been awhile...

I've finally gotten around to uploading the Eclectix artist interviews from the bygone Eclectix website! Just finished with #48 - the dark and lovely artist Jasmine Worth...

Hope to finish transferring them all soon, as well as a few selected articles of merit from the old site.

Seth Siro Anton’s Beautiful Nightmares

Seth is an artist from Athens, Greece and he covers all the bases in art - creating works from paintings, sculptures and digital photography - as well as music with his metal band Septic Flesh. His works have a darkly primal basis in anatomical breakdowns, de-structuring and peeling away - to reveal surreal textures, morphed beings and juxtapositions. They also have a clean elegance of design focus - hence he has created many killer album covers.

An excerpt from an interview with Paradise Lost:

“In my paintings, I usually start with something random and completely abstract. I take nude pictures as a subject whom I take through coloring and painting and eventually using Photoshop, I blend inside the painting. I add more painting on top of that with acrylics and other materials (oils, air spray etc) and I end up with a new picture. I am trying to create a composite technique combining sculpturing layout, painting and photography. I work the subject with digital processing using Photoshop and Painter. Naturally, I have been helped a lot by the experience gained when I was studying at the University of Fine Arts in Athens .” LINK

Nick Kushner's Art Party Opening Tomorrow Night in LA

New York based artist Nick Kushner will be hanged at Los Angeles Studio Servitú on Saturday, Sept. 10th. 'Les Crimes De L'Amour'  marks Kushner's first solo exhibition displaying his signature works which speak of disillusionment & pain within the themes of love, death, and abuse. Most notable is the medium he uses to create them - painting with his own blood. DJ executed by Marilyn Manson's Chris Vrenna. Star-studded performances, appearances and presenters.

A Look/See at Congregation Gallery, Los Angeles

Swooped thru Congregation Gallery on our LA trip in March to take a peek. This gallery is located in Forgotten Saints on Melrose Ave. - the gallery and tattoo space is in the back but there is art slathered all over the walls through-out. The front store section has tons of cool Goth-Victorian-Steampunk clothes and accessories, many hand-made. Most of the artists were familiar and it was wonderful to see their dark and twisted works up close and personal. It was refreshing to see a lot of 3D work and sculptures as well as paintings. Just a few of the dynamite artists who were showing- Dan Harding, Steve Rodgers, Larkin, Cam Rackkam, Krystopher Sapp and Dean Fleming.

The current exhibit at Congregation is three, (count em' three!) solos by - Dan Harding "Splinters", Larkin "Rhinestone Deities", and Patrick Deignan, "Bad Obsession". Check it out!

True Goth Art, Kevin Llewellyn

If you have ever watched LA Ink and noticed that killer painting (and frame) in the background of the tattoo shop (like I did), it is The Virgin Mary by Kevin (above). At first glance I mistakenly thought it was a Shawn Barber - just love this piece! Kevin’s work is about as “goth” as it gets, nice and dark, in subject matter as well as lighting. Obviously an experienced and adept painter, his images are cool and creepy, moody portraiture with a classic old-master feel. Some have a overly pornographic element, with a cheap shock value - whereas subtle, more erotic touches would enhance his works more. Of couse, that is my humble opinion. He is a young artist and shows a lot of promise, featured here are some fantastic favorites. Kevin currently has a solo show at Wonderland Gallery in LA.

Grateful for Pamela Wilson’s Grim Fairy Tales

Stumbled upon these gems on FaceBook and was so happy to have discovered Pamela Wilson’s works.  Gruesome girls, strong pirate wenches in petticoats, mothers gone bad, heroic women and alienated gothic posers - all come together under her spooky paintbrush. For her incredible portfolio click here. She has an upcoming solo show at the Sarah Bain Gallery in December. If you are in OC for Xmas, take some time out from the Tragic Kingdom and check it out.

It's Coming! Those Nightmares Before Xmas...

You had to know Eclectix couldn't let Halloween get by without partaking  in the witch's brew of all the wonderful dark and bloody art out there. We decided to start the screams right when all the muzak carols begin to invade, putting out pumpkins instead of Santa. So to get you thru the looming holidaze, Volume 5 will bring lots of scary monsters and super freaks to lighten the Hallmark load. And this issue packs a double whammy with some killer Day of the Dead art as well... 
Right up until 2011 takes over, 'cause 

"it's the most wonderful time of the year".
