The Art of Aniela Sobieski

Aniela is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting at Syracuse University.  Her works are small yet spectacular, painting dreamy and surreal scenarios. Although her portfolio is young, every piece speaks of the subtle sureness of a direction and style. Little girls ponder big thoughts and happenstance with poetic seriousness. Illustrative meets fine art in her special mixture. Some images here, have been cropped and the sphinx, (below) is “unfinished” - yet it looks beautifully finished to us! To see more works, than are on her website, check out her FB page.

Featured Artist: Kelly Reemtsen

We just love the juxtapositions in Kelly’s paintings, the good girl meets hardware. Her background in fashion design is obvious with the 1950’s and 60’s era puffy dresses. But the way she pairs these fabulous dresses with other objects is the clincher. Well mannered women posing with tools, hardware and clipping shears. Threatening the viewer with vacuum cleaners and mops, she twists the image of women’s work in a wonderful way. Her latest ladies just seem to be falling, helplessly fashionable, to their demise. Oleg Dou’s Beautifully Creepy Digitals

“I am looking for something bordering between the beautiful and the repulsive. I want to attain the feeing of presence one can get when walking by a plastic manikin...”

Eclectix Artist Interview: Michelle Waters

A new interview with fantastic local artist, Michelle Waters...

Can you tell us where you were born and a little history about your childhood?
Born and raised into an artistic family in the San Fernando Valley. I was always restless there and knew that I’d leave when I got old enough because we’d go on vacations to beautiful places where there was more nature. My grandparents where social justice activists, also my grandfather was a painter... to read more go here.

Artist Interview With Master Glass Mistress, Judith Schaechter

Just posted a new Eclectix interview with the ever so profound and edgy Judith. So glad to have her fantastic art and commentary in the soup.

"What IS inspiration anyway?  A lightning bolt?  A “vision”? Does it exist in time or space?  Is it in my head?  Is it a force of energy, is it a reason? Is it a synonym for “desire” or “will”?  Is it even important?
Sometimes I think the asker wants to know “What is the process of manifesting a physical reality in the material world, when previously it was imprisoned in your head?”  Or “how does something go from a formless state into reality?....”

A New Eclectix Interview With Isabel Samaras

"It all kinda whirls together - old movies, a pretty broad spectrum of art, music music music, all the sci-fi books I tore through as a kid, Ultraman and all kinds of Kaiju, fairy tales and fables, the absurdist humor of Monty Python, monsters of every ilk, and very most especially all the many permutations of love: unrequited, blazing out of control, thwarted, tender, forbidden, maternal, and inter-species. Often a painting will..."

For a little life story, artist tricks and some gospel according to Isabel -
