Mark Ryden, "Pink Lincoln" Time Lapse Video

Mark Ryden sent me this cool link to another video of him painting his Pink Lincoln.
It is a time lapse video of the work as it progressed. Fun and campy soundtrack, Ryden's extensive Lincoln collection and a look at the construction of the fabulous carved and painted frame.

Remembering Harvey Milk Today - A Birthday Art Gallery

Today is Harvey's birthday, I sure wish he was still around to grace our city... From the brave man himself-
“If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door.”
“The fact is that more people have been slaughtered in the name of religion than for any other single reason. That, that my friends, is true perversion...”

White Walls Group Exhibition, "New Territory"

The "New Territory" show included artists Akira Beard, Mark Warren Jacques, Robert Burden, Henry Gunderson, and Cheryl Molnar. I really enjoyed the works of two of them...
Akira Beard's works were mainly portrait based  sketchbook pages, refreshing in their gritty rawness.
Mostly famous faces, some had political commentary and  loose smears of paint and graphite embellishments.
Cheryl Molnar's arresting works took collage to another level, using scraps of toned and found paper she re-created landscapes and other scenes.. literally painting with paper.

The colors were brilliant and the overall geometrics of the pieces combined into wonderful painterly images.

R.I.P. Frank Frazetta, Fantasy and Science Fiction Artist Dies

The infamous Frazetta was best known for his paintings in comic books, westerns, science fiction and fantasy styles. He also did a multitude of album cover art and animation. I remember being blown away by his images as a young girl, especially his women. While being the usual sexy posers, they were also very muscular, strong and Amazonian. It was nice to see women with some normal chunk to them in sensual display. His figures were always executed with complete expertise and had a very defined yet supple, fleshy feel. In 2008, the cover illustration to the Burroughs paperback "Escape on Venus" sold at auction for $251,000. Frazetta retained the original Conan paintings, and long refused to part with them. In 2009, Frazetta's "Conan the Conqueror" painting was the first to be offered for sale, and was purchased by a private collector for $1 million. He apparently had a few strokes over the years and this was his last. He greatly influenced today's generation of artists and will be long remembered.
