Best Dressed at the Grammy's 2011, The Artistic Ones

Foto: Pumpsicle
It's been awhile since a fashion-related post and there is nothing like a new dress from Jean-Paul Gaultier to get me going. After looking at all the boring "best dressed" picks, I decided Eclectix had to have a say! The look this year (and every year) seems to be the Vegas-hooker-meets-boring-sequins or the cheap-tart-animal-print. Thankfully, there was the streamlined, ruffled and peek-a-boo masterpiece that Rihanna wore. It was just simply a work of art. I would love to have seen Rihanna sport the black hair and cut from Uma in Pulp Fiction with this dress, for some reason the red hair just didn't work that well.
Then to top it off, out she came out in a fantastic Christian Dior dress for her performance with Eminem. Both dresses were and are- wearable art, beautiful breathtaking masterpieces and cutting that needed edge.

Also sporting some very cute and stylish dresses were Hayley Williams from Paramore and actress Pauley Perrette. Both had a rocker, 1960's kinda' flair, upbeat festive little party dresses, no pretense or sleaze, just fun and pretty.

Once again. I would like to have seen a hair color change here for Hayley (above). Just imagine her hair (and lipstick) matching that hot pink neon of her feather skirt!

Just loved the musical embellishments on Pauley's hot lime green. Her hair was done up in a great retro do as well, enhancing that elfish expression in a sweet n' sassy way.

Other Grammy Notes:
The Lady Gaga egg was fun but her "new" song was so much like Madonna's "Express Yourself"  that I was very disappointed. Was so looking forward to a great NEW song by the GaGa. Congrats to Eminem for the well deserved win on his Recovery album, just please, stop the silly sagging already! And we know you have a great vocabulary, just use it more! Trash some of those over-abused cuss words and step it up a notch.

Creative Cash and His People of Burning Man

Julian Cash is an SF photographer with an eclectic and professional portfolio, from portraits to product shots. His current project is the re-publishing of “The People of Burning Man”. The first limited edition book sold out fast and now, by popular demand, he is “kick -starting” a re-publish. A fantastic fantasy trip of the bodies and edgy people that celebrate the desert event, a vibrant way to add fun color to your world.
“Many of the images celebrate joy and life. Others were created to confront social rules that need to be challenged. Many of the photographs grew from this simple conversation: “How do you want the world to be different?” which was followed with “Let’s create an image which will help bring forth that change.”

Eclectix Interview With Mary Jane Ansell

"Georgie" by Mary Jane Ansell

I first saw Mary Jane’s work while playing tourist in London, at the BP Awards show at the National Portrait Gallery. I was completely floored by her incredible, detailed rendering. Her latest series, “The Beauty of the Hours” is a graceful, moody and captivating group of work. She currently works from her studio in Brighton’s North Laine, after going for her morning walk on the beach.

Albert Von Keller and His Occult Art

This post is long overdue, I really wanted to get it up sooner, but alas! While visiting Seattle, went to the Frye Museum to see a show titled "Seance", featuring the works of Albert Von Keller. I was ignorant of his works and was mesmerized by their wonderfully creepy, moody, druggy kind feel. Some made one feel like they were in a turn of the century insane asylum, while others had an opium-den-brothel kind of feel to them. I fell in love with them all. Incredible antique frames anointed each piece as well. Getting a nice photo of them was very difficult, you will need to see these works for yourself, if ever you get the chance. This museum was a surprisingly great visit as well, the fantastic permanent collection in the back room will have to wait for an even later post.

From the Frye's site:
"Keller’s close association with the Munich psychiatrist Dr. Albert von Schrenck-Notzing (1862–1929), and his participation in séances and occult experiments, placed him at the center of passionate debates in fin de siècle Germany on Seelenleben, or the life of the soul. While fascinated by the paranormal, Keller was equally enthralled by traditional Christian narratives such as the raising of the dead, the powers of mystical healing, and the mysteries of stigmata. He engaged in a lifelong search for new techniques and visual forms to describe shifting, uncertain states of being and becoming."
"The Frye Art Museum’s exhibition showcases Keller’s enigmatic subjects—corpses, séances, dancers in trancelike states, martyred saints, and burning witches—to reveal a potent combination of religious fervor, mysticism, and sensuality. It presents key paintings by Keller from the Kunsthaus Zürich, whose collection was recently enriched by the remarkable gift of more than three hundred paintings by Albert von Keller from the estate of Swiss chemist Oskar A. Müller (1899–1994)."
