Immaculate Deception

Eclectix has posted about Genevive and Ewelina's art before and they have a fantastic new show coming up on July 29th,  in Santa Monica at Copro Gallery. With a great title like "Immaculate Deception" one can't go wrong. These will be all new works and promise to amuse, astound and make us think - all that art should do. Especially impressive is the real depiction of the female form represented in the works shown here. So refreshing to see a woman's body that isn't painted into a sexy vixen or little girl perfection. Kudos to the artists for having the ovaries to brave a spot outside that predictable, cosmetic box.
Genevive Zacconi, "In Our Nature"
Genevive Zacconi, “Oops, I Did It Again”
From Genevive Zacconi about her works for the exhibition:
"... I've taken both themes of betrayal, and aspects within theology and integrated them into my own art. Believing that religion is a product of human imagination, I feel as though this complex explanation for existence is representative of the psyche of the greater whole of humanity, aside from religious sect; the motifs within the imagery & parable being inherent aspects of all of human life. I've therefore tried to take the topics that have stood out to me, through my Catholic upbringing, and apply them to broader issues in modern times. Human suffering, martyrdom, self-imposed victimization, and sacrifice being some of the subjects that have particularly caught my attention and which I see as having risen to the surface of my work within this show."

Ewelina Ferruso, "The Humiliation of the Virgin of Naivety and the Prayer for Divinity"
And from Ewelina Ferruso:
"The rulers of our realm press upon its inhabitants a decree for factory line productivity. We the people are driven by an insatiable need to create the shiny and new. Thus we are becoming a fast news nation, a fast food nation, a fast sex nation and in the process are starving ourselves of that mystical quality that makes us human; not dispensable animated bodies - part plastic, part clay.
As we the human race travel on this journey of truth and deception there is only one champion who will duel for our freedom. She beats inside us all; she is the path of heart."

Pix From The "Dystopia" Show - Super Surreal in Santa Monica

Visited the BeinArt Surreal Collective's show "Dystopia" at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica, along with a ton of other peeps. Great show, wonderful artists and incredible art. Way too many good ones to post them all, but here's a link to them. Met up with artists Pamela Wilson and Carrie Ann Baade, both looking happy and dapper. It was wonderful to finally meet people I have had an "online" relationship with for so long... Laurie Lipton, Sandra Yagi was there from SF and of course Jon Beinart.

This is a show really worth seeing, so many more stupendous pieces!

And last but not least, the award for best dressed couple goes to---

Pictures From "Terribly Happy", Annie Owens' Solo Show

Being able to be at the opening of Annie's show at Copro Gallery was a total treat for me. Her works were spaced well, allowing the sparse feeling in the imagery to breathe. Every single piece was gorgeous, impeccably executed and full of the emotive charms we expect from Annie. And almost all of them were sold already!  Most the works I had been keeping abreast of as she completed them but there was one big surprise for me - titled, "Backwater Peccadillos". A large, tree framed swamp image of two girls floating in a boat, it became my favorite of the show. Just stupendous, they all need to be seen in person!
A link to Copro Gallery's nice online preview of the artworks is here.

Here's Annie, the star of the show and Daniel, her steadfast partner in crime.
Her eyes are saying "Don't take my picture!" - but hey- it's camera one, babee!

There are other shows going on at Copro right now which are really worth viewing as well. Especially the BeinArt Surreal Collective exhibit - "Dystopia". Another post is to come on it.

Annie Owen's Solo: I'm "Terribly Happy" It's Happening...

Annie Owens is exhibiting in LA this month, at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. If you are down that way, try to make it, her works are wonderfully expressive little dark peaks at characters with attitude. Annie is half of the Hi-Fructose art team and founder, Atta-Boy being the other half.
This is a solo show of all new works by Annie, aptly titled "Terribly Happy". The show opens March 19th and it is up thru April 9th, 2011.

There are a ton of great newbrow and surreal art shows going on down there in La-La land right now, so make an art trip of them all! Do some homework and for the easy highlights, check out the Eclectix site, event listings  - "Eight Days A Week".
Keep a sharp eye out for the upcoming interview with Annie, right here at Eclectix. Annie's website is here.

The artsy folks at Hi-Fructose, Atta and Annie, are having their anniversary exhibit in Los Angeles right now. They've been producing this great, newbrow art magazine for 5 years now, so check it out if you haven't seen it. A much needed additional alternative to Juxtapoz. The show opened March 13th and will run thru April 3 at Copro Gallery. So if you are in that neck of the woods, get your head in there.
